GC4 improves by participating in Iowa Quality for Kids (IQ4K®) program

GC4 has achieved a Level 1 Iowa Quality for Kids (IQ4K®) rating, which makes it eligible to receive a $1,600 monetary bonus. GC4 is committed to improving its quality and striving to achieve higher levels on the 5-point IQ4K® scale. To do this, the Center will support its teachers in gaining additional training hours and will work to establish broader partnerships with local community organizations.

Garner, Iowa – In August, Garner Community Christian Child Care (GC4) achieved a Level 1 Iowa Quality for Kids (IQ4K®) rating. The accomplishment makes GC4 eligible for a $1,600 monetary bonus that it can use to support its operations.

The Level 1 rating is the first step on a 5-point scale under the new Iowa IQ4K® program launched in 2022. By participating in IQ4K®, child care programs can assess their current programming across all areas and devise a structured plan to increase the overall level of program quality. Programs make improvements in the following areas: health & safety, environment, professional development, family & community partnerships, and leadership & administration.

Founded in 2017, GC4 has been participating in Iowa’s Quality Rating System (QRS) since 2019. In addition to the monetary bonus, GC4’s new Level 1 status makes the Center eligible for special grants and higher reimbursement rates under Child Care Assistance (CCA), Iowa’s program that provides support to low income families paying for child care.

Teachers working at the Center also stand to benefit. Under IQ4K®, they become eligible for Child Care WAGE$® IOWA, a program that provides education-based salary supplements. Employees may also receive up to $5,000 in tuition reimbursement through the T.E.A.C.H. scholarship program.

Most importantly, staff benefit from knowing that GC4 is investing in their career growth and ongoing professional development.

“Our teachers have the confidence that we’re training them at a higher level and preparing them for future success,” said Cara Fish, Director of Garner Community Christian Child Care.

Under Fish’s leadership, GC4 is committed to improving its quality and striving to achieve higher levels on the IQ4K® scale. To do this, the Center will support its teachers in gaining additional training hours and improving its policy documentation for parents and professionals. Fish is also excited about fostering broader partnerships with local community organizations.

“We’re talking with folks such as dentists, first responders, and assisted living centers to do visits and show-and-tell experiences with the children,” she said. “I can’t wait to create all these exciting new experiences for kids.”

Any community member interested in partnering with GC4, applying for a teaching position, or enrolling their children in child care can contact Director Fish at director@gc4childcare.com.
