Hancock County Foundation makes $50,000 gift to GC4

This is the largest grant in the Foundation's history.

Garner, Iowa – Today, Garner Community Christian Child Care (GC4) announced a $25,000 charitable gift from the Hancock County Foundation. Additionally, the foundation has committed to a second $25,000 gift in 2026, for a total contribution of $50,000. Combined, this is the largest grant in the Foundation’s history.

The donation will support construction of a $3.9 million, 9,000 square-foot building in downtown Garner. The state-of-the-art child care facility will enable GC4 to increase its enrollment to over 100 children, more than doubling the number of families served in the community. For the donation of $50,000, Hancock County Foundation will be recognized as a “GC4 Advocate” and will have a room at the new Center named in their honor.

“We cannot think of a better way to invest in the future of Hancock County than by investing in its children,” said Ellen Tusha, Director of the Hancock County Foundation. This partnership enables our donors to create a lasting legacy that will serve generations to come, at a time when child care investment is critically needed in our region.”

To celebrate the occasion, the Foundation recognized GC4 as a special guest of honor at their annual gala on March 6, 2025, at the Up 4 Celebrations Event Center in Garner. Tusha and Jill Kramer, Executive Director of Hancock County Economic Development Corporation and President of the Foundation’s Advisory Board, presented GC4 Chairman of the Board of Directors Reid Weiland with a check and spoke of the organization’s commitment to providing Hancock County families with exceptional, compassionate child care.

Accepting the award, Reid Weiland said, “We’re honored to receive the Hancock County Foundation’s largest grant to date, and we’re committed to being excellent stewards of this investment. We’re grateful for the Foundation’s ongoing support, and we look forward to building a child care center that will become a beacon of hope and pride for the entire community.”
